Weekly Intake (2)
nachos, a viral girl band, my favorite eBay shop for designer vintage, and some other newsletters I'm into
It’s been gloomy in Los Angeles for the better part of the last three days, which makes me feel both snug as a bug in a rug and also mildly panicked with the fear of early onset SAD. Because of this, my productivity has been nearing an all-time low, so this end-of-week roundup is coming at you hot, ten hours later than it was supposed to.
In order of no importance: things eaten, listened to, coveted, read, and watched this week.
But at home. Because I don’t live down the street from Petty Cash anymore and the 5.5 miles I’d have to drive is too far with a blinking oil change light, I’ve been making my favorite nachos at home (three times this week). Time Out shares the recipe here.
The Beaches new album “Blame My Ex”
Your favorite viral girl band dropped their new album two days ago, and I’ve been jumping around to it all day. It’s got all the pop-y, rock-y, sad girl, bad girl vibes you need to end the summer.
This is one of my favorite eBay shops for designer vintage (yes, I do hate myself after using that phrase), and I watched this swimsuit on eBay all summer, silently willing the lister to send me an offer I couldn’t refuse. The offer never came, and now summer’s almost over. Someone buy it because I never will.
Speaking of eBay, this is one of the first Substacks I ever subscribed to, and it keeps on giving. If your dad also raised you on eBay, this one’s for you. If you’re looking for vintage Alessi kitchenware, this one’s for you. If you don’t want to read full essays and instead want ingestible lists with shortcuts to cool things to spend your money on, this one’s for you.
A newsletter which, at some point, I must have subscribed to but have no memory of. Something I’m grateful to my unconscious self for, as it turns out, after further investigation found me reading and rereading the first three articles I clicked on back to back - namely this one, this one, and this one.
20th Century Women
I love movies that you can settle into and stay for a while. Ones that feel like taking a deep breath. This is one of those for me. Every time I watch this movie, I fall in love with a different character. This time it was Abbie.
Happy Hour at Elf Cafe
$8 for natural wine AND three snackarinis? Since when, LA?! Will be frequenting between 5p-6p every week from now on. Plus, the real (non-happy hour) food is just as beautiful and decadent as the interior.
Metropolitan
A bizarrely-paced and -plotted movie that I felt like I should hate but thoroughly enjoyed.
People are the Worst Podcast
If you, like me, love true crime told by witty twins with a Southern accent who don’t take it too seriously.
These silky Cinq à Sept pants
I don’t know if these are sweatpants or pajama pants or just the best pants, but I found them crumpled up in the bottom of a drawer and got to feel the thrill of them again like it was the first time.
That’s all for now. See you Wednesday!
Big hugs, sloppy kisses!
Claire
I am also having an eBay revival and loving every second of it.
thank you <3
